Shopping in Ibiza: From craft markets to local Ibiza shops

July 05 2024

When you go shopping in Ibiza, you’ll discover a world full of sounds, colours, smells, art, and fashion. The craft markets and local Ibiza shops all offer unique products and an authentic Ibiza shopping experience—much more than souvenirs. The Ibizan culture will captivate you if you spend a little time exploring the markets and stores.

Spending time in Ibiza doing almost anything will mean encountering artisans, artists, and designers who live on or visit the island to sell their handmade creations. It won't be unusual to see people actively working on their products: creating jewellery, paintings, ceramics, clothing, and accessories. It is also common to find locals selling products they cultivated and processed themselves, such as honey, cheese, fruits, vegetables, or wine. Here’s what you need to know about where to find each locally-made product.

The inside track on Ibiza’s craft markets

Besides its famous nightlife and stunning landscapes, Ibiza boasts craft markets for visitors and locals alike — a top-tier cultural element. For decades, since the 60s specifically, Ibiza has been the junction where craftsmanship meets a love for nature, a combination that peaked in the 70s when hippy communities settled here.

This is why we advise visitors to go out and find the authentic Ibiza shopping experience by going to hippie or craft markets, where artistic talent floods onto stalls and streets. The hippie way of life is still evident and reflected in the many markets you’ll both hunt out and stumble upon in Ibiza.

Typical products found in Ibiza’s markets

The markets in Ibiza sell a wide variety of typical products, many of which are handmade and unique as Ibizan souvenirs for you, friends and family. Some examples you can find are:

  • Clothing for all the family and textiles for furnishings.

  • Jewellery for men and women, made to an extremely high quality.

  • Accessories, including hats, caps, bags, backpacks, sandals, and handmade shoes.

  • Wellness and cosmetic products like essential oils, perfumes, soaps, natural cosmetics, and handmade candles.

In Ibizan craft markets, exquisite art and decorations are easy to find. When you’re here you’ll find many paintings and sculptures by local artists that reflect the beauty and culture of Ibiza.

Wood and ceramic crafts are also prominent, such as handmade decorative and utilitarian objects. Tapestries, cushions, and blankets with bohemian designs are other items on offer that reflect the rich culture and creativity of Ibiza —  the local Ibiza shops are your chance to take a piece of the white isle home with you.

Top 5 craft markets to go shopping in Ibiza

Now you know what you might be able to find, here are the top 5 places to go shopping in Ibiza:

1. Punta Arabí Hippy Market (Es Canar)

Founded in 1973, Punta Arabí is the largest and oldest craft market in Ibiza. It’s located in Es Canar and boasts over 500 stalls, selling clothing, jewellery, art, and handcrafted products. There are also live music performances several times a week and a variety of gastronomic options to refuel between shopping stints.

2. Las Dalias (San Carlos)

Another of the most iconic markets in Ibiza, Las Dalias is famous for its bohemian atmosphere. You’ll find a wide variety of handcrafted products, from clothing and accessories to art and decorations. There are also live music performances, DJ sets, and a selection of bars and restaurants. If you stay at Invisa Cala Blanca or Invisa Cala Verde, Las Dalias craft market will be close by!

3. Sant Jordi Market

Near the Ibiza airport, the Sant Jordi market is popular among both locals as well as tourists. It is held in an old racetrack where stalls selling all kinds of products sit, people will be selling everything from second-hand clothing and books to collectables and crafts.

4. San Juan Market

With a relaxed and community atmosphere, the San Juan craft market is known for the traditional sellers manning local Ibiza shops. Many of them are selling organic groceries such as fruits, vegetables, bread, and cheese, as well as the Ibiza souvenirs you’ll come to expect, clothing, and wellness products.

5. Cala Llenya Hippy Market

Smaller and quieter, the Cala Llenya cradle market is ideal for those seeking a more relaxed experience. Here, you’ll find a mix of second-hand products, crafts, and fresh food.

After you’ve hit the craft markets, you should fuel up on some bullit the peix, an incredible local dish, and then head to smaller outlets to expand on that authentic Ibiza shopping experience.

Local Ibiza Shops You Can't Miss

The local shops that stand out in our minds are those that sell the most unique products in a welcoming or fun atmosphere. The following establishments offer unique shopping experiences, and you can find everything from fashion and accessories to art and decoration, all with the special touch and creative spirit that characterises this island.

The store is run by a family that has turned their love for travel and world cultures into an iconic Ibiza brand. Their collection of 100% handmade accessories and clothing is born from a fusion of materials and traditional crafts from around the world.

Sluiz

This store resembles an art gallery more than a conventional store, with frequent exhibitions and events. Located in Santa Gertrudis de Fruitera, Sluiz is a conceptual store stocked with an eclectic mix of furniture, clothing, and decorative items. It is known for its creative approach and eccentric atmosphere. Sluiz opened its doors in 2006 and has been surprising each of its visitors ever since.

Vicente Ganesha

In the heart of Dalt Vila, you’ll find a vintage fashion store offering a curated selection of high-quality clothing and accessories. The owner, Vicente Hernández, is an icon on the island, hence the name Vicente Ganesha, and his store is known for its authentic Ibiza shopping atmosphere as well as excellent service.

Markets and Local Ibiza Shops: The Artisan Soul

The local Ibiza shops are a cultural bastion and the ultimate expression of the Ibizan way of life. They coexist with the widespread idea that the island is a nightlife zone. Now you know that, in fact, Ibiza also harbours an exceptional cultural heritage like that found in smaller establishments that are locally owned and craft markets that bring Ibizans together to sell together.

The existence of craft markets and local Ibiza shops is key to preserving the culture, so visiting and shopping in these places is a way to support local merchants and artisans who, besides having a way of life, have a mission of cultural legacy in this sector.

Make sure your trip to Ibiza includes some strolls around local shops and craft markets, where you can discover the most Ibizan shopping experience and traditions that live on today. Come to stay in Ibiza and discover everything this wonderful island has to offer!
