When to travel to Ibiza: A season for every traveller

Travel tips

Don’t ask yourself when the season starts in Ibiza – ask yourself, what kind of Ibiza holiday do I fancy? The island boasts attractions every month of the year, catering to every type of visitor, not just during high season.

We’re proud that there's room for everyone in Ibiza. Those who enjoy nightclubs, love hiking trails, are seeking top-notch Mediterranean cuisine, or who want to dive into the island's rich historical heritage, can chase their slice of passion or peace according to the time of year. They all have their place in Ibiza. What's your preference?

The thermometer dictates when the season starts in Ibiza!

Tourist seasons in Ibiza are linked to temperatures for a reason. There’s no prominently cold climate here at any time of the year, but you will find different seasons, let's look at them more closely:

Low season in Ibiza: December, January, February and March

In Ibiza after September, these months are the coldest in Ibiza, with minimum temperatures of 7°C. At this time of year, sunbathing isn't the attraction, but the island in autumn and winter is a perfect haven of peace for those seeking a break from the hustle and bustle.

Winter is the cheapest time to travel to Ibiza, as the island ceases to be a beach and clubbing destination. There are fewer people and, as a result, accommodation is cheaper, restaurants are less busy and tourist attractions have more space for you.

Mid-season in Ibiza: April, May, October and November

The two months before and after summer are still significant in the Ibiza scene. Spring and autumn are great options to visit Ibiza without crowds and with much more affordable prices than in the high season. Many agree that Ibiza in May or before this month is the best to truly soak up the virtues of Ibiza.

High season in Ibiza: June, July, August and September

These are the peak holiday periods in the Mediterranean treasure, as you well know. This time of year sees the highest temperatures and are the days with the most hours of sunshine per day.

If you’re someone who enjoys basking in the sun and meeting plenty of new friends, we highly recommend visiting Ibiza in the summer.

What's the weather like in Ibiza year-round?

The climate is one the reasons so many people visit Ibiza every year, as the island enjoys warm temperatures throughout the year. The coolest month is January, with an average of only five rainy days per month, followed by December, February and March.

During the mid-season, mainly October, November, April and May in Ibiza, temperatures hover around 20°C, creating a pleasant atmosphere for anyone visiting. In the high season, especially in August, temperatures exceed 30°C so it can be more difficult for families with small children to do much outside of the pool area – it depends on your sensitivities. June and September are milder months, with temperatures between 26 and 27°C, with the occasional hotter day and the summer is dry and never cloudy.

Ibiza in May, the prelude to summer

May in Ibiza marks the beginning of high season, although some nightclubs and venues may not get into full swing until later in the summer. However, you can already enjoy the nightlife during the month of May in Ibiza, albeit with less crowded events and parties. Perfect for making more profound connections and new friends!

In addition to nightlife, May is perfect for exploring Ibiza's natural beauty. You can enjoy coastal trails, visit charming villages like Santa Eulalia or San Carlos, and rent a car to discover hidden coves and stunning landscapes. There are also live music concerts, exhibitions and local activities to enjoy in the late springtime.

Ibiza in summer: June to August

Enjoying Ibiza in summer can be exciting, but it also requires some planning to avoid crowds and make the most of your experience. We recommend the following for summertime visitors:

  • Book accommodation in advance.

  • Explore lesser-known beaches to avoid crowds.

  • Plan your nightlife outings.

  • Explore the island's interior.

  • Enjoy activities early in the morning or at sunset.

  • Have dinner outside peak hours.

  • Book activities in advance.

  • Stay hydrated and protect yourself from the sun.

Ibiza in September: the best-kept secret

The weather on the island in September is pleasant, allowing for all kinds of activities, but surrounded by tranquillity, nature, silence, and peace. Many travellers specifically choose to visit during autumn to be able to do all the activities that might be uncomfortable in the summer, if they are not heat-lovers or fans of crowds.

Visiting Ibiza in September can make your experience more enjoyable and relaxing. Some even say that there’s a more authentic atmosphere, it’s easier to get tickets to shows and concerts, there’s a more select nightlife, and plenty of outdoor activities.

Ibiza off-season: autumn and winter

Ibiza off-season offers a unique and authentic experience, ideal for those seeking extreme calm, sights of natural beauty, person-free photographs and no pressure to read the signs at museums quickly! If you like to be a calmer soul and looking for the most cost-effective time to visit, consider coming during autumn or winter, anytime after September in Ibiza, to discover a different side of this fascinating Mediterranean island.

Whenever you visit Ibiza, you won't regret it! We look forward to seeing you here.
